Last Friday, Representative Davidsmeyer joined members of the Leadership Council of Southwestern Illinois and colleagues from the House and Senate for a legislative update on the last session. The meeting aimed to discuss growth and opportunities in the region.
Southwestern Illinois encompasses a nine-county area, including Madison, St. Clair, Macoupin, Clinton, Monroe, Jersey, Bond, Washington, and Calhoun Counties. It is the second-largest population center in Illinois with over 700,000 residents and constitutes one-quarter of the St. Louis Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA).
Since its inception in 1983, the Leadership Council has been instrumental in fostering economic growth in Southwestern Illinois. The organization developed the first regional economic development agenda and has spent over 35 years strengthening public-private partnerships to support job growth and retention.
