Bushnell-Prairie City Community Unit School District 170 Board of Education met Aug. 21.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The Board of Education met in a Regular Meeting on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. in the High School LRC with the following members present: McCleery, Miller, Spangler, Webb, Thompson, McGrew and Beekman Absent: None 

Public Comments: Nichole Smith spoke to the Board regarding student's grades and eligibility to participate in sports. 

Motion by Member Webb, seconded by Member Miller to move to Executive Session for the purpose of discussing the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees, probable litigation against the district and student discipline. After a voice vote. All in favor. Motion carried. 

Motion by Member Miller, seconded by Member Spangler to adjourn Executive Session and return to Open Session. After a voice vote. All in favor. Motion carried. 

The Board reviewed the Consent Agenda. 

Motion by Member Webb, seconded by Member McGrew to approve the Consent Agenda which contained the following: Minutes of the June 19, 2024 Amended Budget Hearing, Regular and Executive Session Meetings, Payment of Bills, Treasurer's Report and Investments, Student Activity Accounts, Manual and Void Checks and Imprest Ledgers. After a roll call vote motion carried as follows: Aye: McCleery, Miller, Spangler, Webb, Thompson, McGrew and Beekman Nay: None. 

Superintendent Gound reviewed the Summer Maintenance Projects, FFA Livestock Show, B-PC Education Foundation Mini Grants, Dual Credits with CSC, Safety Night 

September 10, 2024, Military Hall being put back up, Western Division Meeting. Superintendent Gound reviewed the 2024-25 Parent/Student Handbook. 

Motion by Member Spangler, seconded by Member Miller to approve the 2024-25 

Parent/Student Handbook. After a roll call vote motion carried as follows: Aye: McCleery, Miller, Spangler, Webb, Thompson, McGrew and Beekman Nay: None. 

Motion by Member McGrew, seconded by Member Webb to approve the Occupancy Permits for Summer Projects at the Elementary. After a roll call vote motion carried as follows: Aye: McCleery, Miller, Spangler, Webb, Thompson, McGrew and Beekman. 

The Board reviewed a request for FMLA. 

Motion by Member Miller, seconded by Member Spangler to approve the request for FMLA from a District employee. After a roll call vote motion carried as follows: Aye: McCleery, Miller, Spangler, Webb, Thompson, McGrew and Beekman. 

Motion by Member Webb, seconded by Member Thompson to approve the Final Reading of the following Policy updates. After a roll call vote motion carried as follows: Aye: McCleery, Miller, Spangler, Webb, Thompson, McGrew and Beekman.

5:285 - Drug and Alcohol Testing for School Bus and Commercial Vehicle Driver

6:110 - Programs for Students at Risk of Academic Failure and/or Dropping out

6:150 - Home and Hospital Instruction

Superintendent Gound reviewed the 2024-25 Tentative Budget. 

Motion by Member Webb, seconded by Member Beekman to approve the 2024-25 Tentative Budget and put it on display in the District Office. After a roll call vote motion carried as follows: Aye: McCleery, Miller, Spangler, Webb, Thompson, McGrew and Beekman. 

The Board reviewed the Personnel Report. 

Motion by Member Miller, seconded by Member Thompson to approve the Personnel Report as follows: Retirement: Teresa Fisher as JH Para Pro effective immediately Resignations: Joanna Ellis as Elementary Teacher effective immediately, Charne Stoltz as JH Social Worker effective immediately, Breanna Treadway as Elementary Cook, Keily Hale as Elementary Para Pro effective immediately, Resham Singh as High School Para Pro effective immediately. New Employment: Sasha Chambers as 1⁄2 Time HS FACS Teacher for the 2024- 25 School Year, Danelle Meier as Elementary Teacher for the 2024-25 School Year, Debra Schrock as Elementary Para Pro for the 2025-25 School Year, Trinity Horton as High School Para Pro for the 2024-25 School Year, Tiffany Chenoweth as Junior High Para Pro for the 2024-25 School year, Lyn Beth Myers as Elementary Para Pro for the 2024-25 School Year, Sherry Faught as Elementary Cook for the 2024-25 School Year. Change of Assignment: Heather Heap from Elementary Para Pro to Elementary Special Education Teacher. Thomas Lowe from Elementary Special Education Teacher to High School Math. After a roll call vote motion carried as follows: Aye: McCleery, Miller, Spangler, Webb, Thompson, McGrew and Beekman. Nay: None

Superintendent Gound reported 6th Day Enrollment was 588. There are three Board 

Members whose terms will expire in 2025, Jonathon Miller, Nathan Webb and Brad Beekman. Petitions can be circulated now with the first day to file November 12, 2024, Election will be April 1, 2025. 

Motion by Member McGrew seconded by Member Webb to adjourn the Meeting. After a voice vote, all in favor, motion carried. 

The next regular meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. in the High School LRC.
