The Leatherneck volleyball team is set to host the Hampton Inn Leatherneck Classic at Western Hall in Macomb, Illinois. The event will take place over two days, with matches scheduled for Friday, September 6, and Saturday, September 7.

Western Illinois University (WIU) returns home after participating in the Huskie Invitational last weekend, where they achieved a record of one win and one loss. The team currently leads the nation in digs per set with an average of 26.75 and ranks 15th nationally in kills per set at 14.75.

Keyana Cruse has been a standout performer for WIU, leading the NCAA in kills per set (6.50) and points per set (7.12). She was named the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Defensive Player of the Week on September 2nd, 2024. Cruse finished the Huskie Invitational with impressive statistics: 52 kills, 51 digs, and four blocks.

Maggie Craker also made significant contributions with 83 assists over two games and leads the OVC in assists per set (10.38). Elizabeth Ziegler added to WIU's offensive efforts with 29 kills and four blocks.

South Dakota State is familiar competition for WIU as both teams were part of the Summit League until WIU joined the Ohio Valley Conference in 2023. South Dakota State holds a historical advantage with a record of 23-11 against WIU.

Purdue Fort Wayne remains undefeated against WIU from their past encounters in 2018 and 2019. The Mastodons are led by Panna Ratkai who ranks highly nationally in kills per set.

UIC has faced WIU numerous times historically but comes into this tournament following a successful sweep at their recent invitational event.

Following this classic event, WIU will travel to Grand Forks, North Dakota for further competition at the UND Classic starting on September 13th.
