The Western Illinois women's tennis team faced a challenging match on Saturday, succumbing to a 7-0 defeat against the Kansas City Roos in Kansas City. Despite a victory from the No. 1 doubles team of Paige Grice and Lara Rossetto Diniz de Souza, who secured a 6-4 win, Kansas City claimed the remaining two doubles matches to secure the doubles point.
In singles competition, Kansas City continued their dominance by winning all six matches. This result left the Leathernecks with a record of 2-9 for the winter/spring season. Agatha Carbonell, playing at No. 4 singles, came closest to securing a win for Western Illinois but ultimately lost in a third-set tiebreaker with scores of 6-0, 1-6, 6-1. At No. 2 singles, Paige Grice also played competitively but was defeated with scores of 7-5, 6-4.
Looking ahead, the Leathernecks will host SEMO on Tuesday for their Ohio Valley Conference opener at Brophy Tennis Courts. The match is set to begin at 11 a.m.
