Anna-Evelina Trush, a freshman at Western Illinois University, achieved a hard-fought victory in her singles match against Southeast Missouri State (SEMO) on Tuesday. Trush won with scores of 6-3, 5-7, and 1-0 (10-8) in a third-set tiebreaker. Her win was the only one for the Leathernecks during their Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) opener against SEMO, which ended with a score of 6-1 in favor of SEMO.

The defeat leaves Western Illinois with an overall record of 2-10 and 0-1 in the OVC. Their next match is scheduled for Friday when they will face Tennessee State.

In doubles competition, SEMO secured the point by winning all three matches. The pair of Trush and Aina Cortina-Pou competed strongly at No. 3 doubles but were defeated 6-4. In singles matches besides Trush's win, Paige Grice challenged her opponent but ultimately lost with scores of 6-4 and 6-1.
