Western Illinois women's tennis team defeats Coe College in Cedar Rapids

The Western Illinois women's tennis team secured a victory against Coe College with an 8-1 win in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The Leathernecks started strong by sweeping all three doubles matches without dropping a set.

In the doubles competition, Paige Grice and Lara Rossetto Diniz de Souza won at No. 1 doubles with an 8-4 score. Agatha Carbonell and Maria Rybka were victorious at No. 2 doubles, winning 8-2. Aina Cortina-Pou and Anna-Evelina Trush completed the sweep with an 8-1 win.

In singles play, Western Illinois maintained dominance by winning five of six matches while losing only two sets. Rossetto Diniz de Souza led the charge at No. 1 singles with a 6-4, 6-3 victory. Grice followed with a decisive 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles. Carbonell moved up from No. 3 to No. 4 singles and won her match convincingly, scoring 6-1, 6-2.

Maria Rybka added another point for WIU with her second win of the day at No. 4 singles, finishing with a score of 6-1, 6-3. Trush rounded off the success for Western Illinois by winning her match at No. 5 singles with scores of 6-0, 6-3.

This victory improves the Leathernecks' record to two wins and seven losses for this winter/spring season. They will host St. Louis University on Wednesday for their next match.
