The Western Illinois University (WIU) tennis team is preparing for an Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) match against Eastern Illinois University (EIU) this Friday. The Leathernecks will travel to Charleston for the game, scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Currently, WIU holds a 2-11 record overall and has yet to secure a conference win with a 0-2 standing.

In their recent matches, WIU faced defeats in two OVC contests last week. On Tuesday, they lost at home to Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO), with a score of 6-1. Anna-Evelina Trush was the sole victor for WIU, winning her match in a third-set tiebreaker. The previous Saturday saw the Leathernecks narrowly defeated by Tennessee State University with a score of 4-3. Paige Grice, Aina Cortina-Pou, and Agatha Carbonell each secured wins for WIU during that encounter.

Looking ahead, after this week's match against EIU, the Leathernecks will have a break until March 30 when they host Southern Indiana. They are set to face Lindenwood on April 12 in their final home game of the season before concluding regular-season play on April 13 at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE).

Trush and Grice have been leading performers for WIU this season in singles play, both holding records of four wins and nine losses. In doubles competition, Grice teams up with Lara Rossetto Diniz de Souza; together they also hold a record of four wins and nine losses.

Eastern Illinois has struggled this spring as well, entering Friday's matchup with an overall record of 0-16 and an OVC record of 0-1. Their most recent outing resulted in a 5-2 loss against Southern Indiana.
