City of Dallas City Council met Sept. 11.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

The Dallas City City Council held its regular meeting on September 11, 2024, at 5:30 p.m. Mayor Kevin Six called the meeting to order with the following commissioners present: Carole McDowell, Peggy Newberry, Harold Northup Jr., and Greg Olson.

Others attending the meeting were Anne Thompson, Judy Melton, Charisse Purchatzke, Tracy Markey, and Gary Smith.

A motion was made by Olson, and 2nd by Newberry to accept the minutes of the August 28, 2024, meeting. McDowell, Newberry, Northup, Olson, and Six AYE.

Judy Melton and Charisse Purchatzke discussed citizens helping the city with community items like utility issues and properties that violate the nuisance ordinance. The council has no problem with the city citizens helping with these kinds of things.

Discussed properties that need to be cleaned up or torn down and the process to take actions against these property owners.

Tracy Markey discussed the lead service water lines in town. There is going to be a letter sent out to the property owners that have service lines that need to be replaced in a week or two.

Police Chief Gary Smith gave his report for the month of August 2024. He recently attended the E Ticket Demonstration. Both Hancock County and Henderson County are going to use this system. If the city would decide to start using it, printers would have to be purchased for each police vehicle. These could be paid for with DUI Funds. He also reported that the Hancock County ESDA Director would like to create an All Hazard Incident Management Team for the mitigation of disaster situations, and he has submitted his name to assist.

Discussed the demolition of the old Hagy's building and the filling in of the hole. The city has received the following bills for this work:

Beach Excavating - $5,650 for the demolition of the building

John Matt Markey - $20,720 for 37 loads of fill sand

Donald Scanlan - $9,352.50 for loading fill sand and dozer rental

Scanlan & Sparrow Trucking - $7,556.25 for trucking building debris and sand

A motion was made by Olson, and 2nd by Newberry to pay Beach Excavating $5,650 for the demolition of the old Hagy's building. McDowell, Newberry, Northup, Olson, and Six AYE.

It was decided to discuss the remaining bills for the old Hagy's building more at the next meeting.

Discussed setting a time for Trick-Or-Treat next month. It was decided to have Trick-Or-Treat on October 30, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Mayor Six reported that there is going to be a motorcycle rally in town on September 21. There will be a motorcycle parade on First Street, from the Recreation Park to Sycamore Street, on Sycamore Street to Third Street, and then out of town on Third Street.

A motion was made by Northup, and 2nd by McDowell to adjourn the meeting. McDowell, Newberry, Northup, Olson, and Six AYE.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
