The Western Illinois University cross country team is set to participate in the Ohio Valley Conference Meet, which marks the beginning of their postseason. The event will take place on Friday in Martin, Tennessee. The women's race, a 6K, is scheduled for 9 a.m., followed by the men's 8K at 10 a.m.
Competing teams include Eastern Illinois, Lindenwood, Little Rock, Morehead State, Southeast Missouri, SIUE, Southern Indiana, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech, UT Martin, and Western Illinois.
Recently at the Bradley Pink Classic, several Western Illinois athletes achieved notable performances. Madison Trevena now holds the second-fastest 6K time in program history with a finish of 21:35. Freshman Kinze Kirkland-Shea recorded the fifth-fastest time for the program at 21:58.7. Senior Logan Lommel ran an impressive 8K time of 24:32.65 while Logan Beckmier's performance placed him seventh in program history with a time of 24:42.11.
Last year saw Eastern Illinois dominate both men's and women's categories at the Championships for consecutive years.
Key times to watch include Brady Terry from Southern Indiana with an 8K time of 24:10.5 and Nova Ojutkangas from Southeast Missouri with a leading women's 6K time of 20:31.3.
Following this meet, qualifying athletes will proceed to the NCAA Regional Meet on November 15 in Peoria, Illinois.
