FOIA Request Sent to Mount Sterling City Council Regarding Council Members' Information on October 15, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Mount Sterling City Council in Illinois on October 15, 2024. The request was made by us at West Central Reporter, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

In our quest for transparency and accountability, we requested records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. We asked for this information preferably in an electronic format for easy accessibility and dissemination.

The specific information requested includes a list of all council members with their respective names, titles, years of appointment, term lengths (2 or 4 years), and term expiry dates.

As a media organization, we believe that access to public records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. In line with this belief, we have requested a fee waiver as media professionals engaged in gathering and reporting news to the public.

We await a positive response from the Mount Sterling City Council as we continue our mission to keep the public informed about their local government's activities.
