FOIA Request Sent to City Of Macomb Finance Department Regarding Sales Tax Records on October 25, 2024

FOIA Request to City Of Macomb Finance Department Regarding Sales Tax Records on October 25, 2024.

As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability in local government, we at West Central Reporter have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City Of Macomb Finance Department. The request, dated October 25, 2024, seeks comprehensive records related to sales tax collected from retailers since the beginning of the year.

Specifically, we are seeking information on sales tax collected from retailers by month versus projected figures. We also requested data on the number of active retail locations paying sales tax each month. In addition, we asked for the names of each retailer and their gross retail sales reported for each month.

We believe that access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities as journalists. This includes holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional.

We will continue to keep you updated on this matter as more information becomes available.
