FOIA Request to Colchester City Council Regarding Comprehensive Information of All Council Members on October 15, 2024.
As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at West Central Reporter have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Colchester City Council. The request was made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, and seeks detailed information about all current council members.
Specifically, we requested a list of all council members with the following fields: Name, Title, Year Appointed, Term (2 or 4 years), and Term Expire Date. This information is essential for us in fulfilling our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to such public records is crucial. We believe that we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional due to our role in disseminating information.
