A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the Rushville City Council in Illinois on October 15, 2024. The request was made by us at West Central Reporter, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The FOIA request specifically asked for a list of all council members with specific details such as their names, titles, years they were appointed, term lengths (2 or 4 years), and the dates their terms expire. This information is crucial for our reporting as it allows us to provide transparency about the individuals serving in public office.
As a media organization, we play an essential role in gathering and disseminating news to the public. Access to public records is vital for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
We await the response from the Rushville City Council and will continue our efforts to provide transparent and accurate reporting on local government affairs.
