FOIA Request Sent to Cass County Regarding Freedom of Information Act Logs on October 7, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to Cass County, Illinois, on October 7, 2024. The request was made by us at the West Central Reporter, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

We requested records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, specifically seeking a list of FOIA logs sent to Cass County from January 1, 2024 till October 7, 2024. The requested fields included: Requester Name, Requester Organization, Request Content, Request Date, Request Complete Date and FOIA Status.

As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.

In other news related to Illinois state affairs, the Illinois Department of Transportation announced in July 2023 the most extensive multi-year program known as Rebuild Illinois. This initiative aims to improve and repair all modes of transportation across the state. Governor JB Pritzker expressed his commitment towards this project stating that over $40 billion will be invested over six years for improving roads and bridges, modernizing transit and aviation and expanding passenger rail service.

According to the department's reports, ten major projects are currently underway in Chicago under this program with an investment of $396 million aimed at improving safety and mobility on Illinois's roads and bridges. Three projects are scheduled for completion in 2024 while seven others are projected for completion between 2025 through 2030. Kane County is set to receive $107 million for seven projects while central Cook County will see an investment of $220 million for ten projects, all under the Rebuild Illinois program.
