A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the Pittsfield City Council in Illinois on October 15, 2024. The request was made by us at West Central Reporter, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
In our quest for transparency and accountability in public institutions, we sought detailed information about all council members. The requested data includes each member's name, title, year of appointment, term length (whether two or four years), and term expiration date.
As a news organization committed to delivering timely and accurate information to the public, we rely heavily on access to public records. This information is crucial for us as it aids in our role of holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency for the public.
We believe that as media professionals involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we are eligible for a fee waiver under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act.
We await a positive response from the Pittsfield City Council as we continue our mission of keeping the public informed about their local government's activities.
