A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Beardstown City Council on October 15, 2024. The request was made by us at West Central Reporter, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The FOIA request sought specific information about all council members. The requested details include each member's name, title, year of appointment, term length (whether two or four years), and the date their term expires.
As a media organization, we believe that access to public records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we requested a fee waiver as a media professional.
