FOIA Request Sent to City Of Jacksonville Finance Department Regarding Sales Tax Records on October 25, 2024

FOIA Request to City Of Jacksonville Finance Department Regarding Sales Tax Records on October 25, 2024.

As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at West Central Reporter have submitted a request for records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. The requested information pertains specifically to sales tax collected from retailers within the city from January 1, 2024, till the present date.

The detailed data we are seeking includes monthly comparisons of actual sales tax collected versus projected amounts. We are also interested in the number of active retail locations paying sales tax each month during this period. Additionally, we have asked for the names of each retailer and their reported gross retail sales for each month.

Access to public records is essential for us at West Central Reporter to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.

We will continue to keep you updated on this matter as more information becomes available.
