A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Bushnell City Council in Illinois on October 15, 2024. The request was made by us at West Central Reporter, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The FOIA request seeks information about all council members serving in the Bushnell City Council. Specifically, we requested for the following details: the names of all council members, their respective titles, the year they were appointed, their term length (whether it is two or four years), and the date when their term expires.
As a media organization, our role involves gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records such as these is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. We have expressed this belief in our communication with the Bushnell City Council.
