FOIA Request to City of Virginia Regarding Building Permits on October 30, 2024.
As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at West Central Reporter have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City of Virginia. This request was made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140.
The information requested includes a list of all new residential and commercial building permits issued from January 1, 2023, up until the present date. The specific fields we are interested in are the type of permit, date issued, fee paid, requester's name, address where the permit is applicable, and contractor's name.
In addition to this, we have also requested a list of all active residential and commercial building permits along with their current status. The same fields as mentioned above are required for these active permits as well.
Access to public records is crucial for us at West Central Reporter in fulfilling our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we believe that we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
We await a response from the City of Virginia and will continue our work in ensuring transparency in local government affairs.
