Volunteers distributed free turkeys at the Jacksonville Area Community Food Center on Monday. According to center administrator Melissa Hall, people began lining up at 7:30 a.m. for the giveaway, which commenced at 9 a.m. By 9:15 a.m., only a dozen of the 125 available turkeys were left.

The event was sponsored by Sen. Jil Tracy, Rep. C.D. Davidsmeyer, Jacksonville Mayor Andy Ezard, Ware Brands, and Meridian. Participants in the distribution included Ezard, Davidsmeyer, representatives from Tracy’s office, food center volunteers, and students from Jacksonville School District 117’s Transitional Adult Program.
