FOIA Request to Scott County Sheriff's Office Regarding 2024 Arrest Records on January 7, 2025.
As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at West Central Reporter have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Scott County Sheriff's Office. The request, sent on January 7, 2025, seeks access to arrest records for the entire year of 2024.
The requested information includes a list of all arrests from January 1, 2024, through December 31, 2024. Specifically, we are seeking details such as the arrestee's name, date of arrest, gender, race, date of birth and the crime committed.
As a media organization dedicated to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. We believe that as media professionals involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we are eligible for a fee waiver under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act.
We await a response from the Scott County Sheriff's Office and will continue our work in bringing important local governmental affairs into light.
