FOIA Request to Morgan County Clerk Regarding 2025 Consolidated Elections Candidates on January 14, 2025.
As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at West Central Reporter have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Morgan County Clerk. The request was made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, and we have asked for the information preferably in electronic format.
The records we are seeking pertain to the upcoming 2025 Consolidated Elections. Specifically, we have requested a list of candidates that are running for office. The details we require include each candidate's name, the date they filed their candidacy, and the specific office they are running for.
As a media organization, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
