The Western Illinois University (WIU) Women's Basketball Team secured a significant victory against Southeast Missouri State, winning 94-66 at Western Hall. This win was marked by strong offensive performances from three players who each scored over 20 points. WIU, now holding a record of 10-9 overall and 4-6 in the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC), took control early with a 27-point first quarter.
Junior forward Mia Nicastro led the Leathernecks with a season-high 29 points, shooting 10-of-18 from the field and an impressive 8-for-9 from the free-throw line. She also contributed seven rebounds and three assists. Sophomore guard Raegan McCowan added to the team's success with 22 points on efficient shooting, along with nine rebounds and four assists.
Freshman guard Madison Davis made a notable impact off the bench, scoring a career-high 21 points by hitting four three-pointers. WIU's balanced offense was evident as they recorded 22 assists on their 29 field goals and shot an impressive 61.1% from beyond the arc.
Defensively, WIU limited SEMO to just 38% shooting and outrebounded them 37-32. The team capitalized on turnovers, scoring 22 points off them, and managed to add another 12 points through second-chance opportunities.
With this victory, WIU moved up to sixth place in the OVC standings. They are set to face Eastern Illinois, the top team in the conference, on Thursday night at home.
