A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Greene County Election Division regarding a comprehensive list of candidates running in the upcoming election. The request was made on February 5, 2025.
As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs at West Central Reporter, we are seeking access to public records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. We have requested this information preferably in an electronic format for ease of use and dissemination.
The specific details we have asked for include each candidate's first, middle, and last name. Additionally, we have requested information about the office they are running for and its jurisdiction. We have also asked for each candidate's party affiliation.
To ensure complete transparency and accountability, we have also requested all contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
We await a response from the Greene County Election Division and will continue our efforts to provide comprehensive coverage of local governmental affairs.
