State Senator Steve McClure of Springfield has expressed his support for a lawsuit filed by the United States Department of Justice against the state of Illinois. In a statement, McClure criticized Governor J.B. Pritzker and Mayor Brandon Johnson, along with other Democratic leaders in the state, for prioritizing what he described as the protection of criminals over the safety of law-abiding citizens.

McClure stated, "Governor Pritzker, Mayor Johnson, and their Democratic allies throughout the state have made it clear that their priority is to protect criminals over the safety of law-abiding citizens. That is a policy that has been present not just in immigration statutes, but also in criminal law."

He emphasized that unless there are significant changes to these policies, residents will continue to face danger. McClure added his support for the DOJ's legal action, which aims to compel state officials to adhere to federal laws.

"This is why I support the U.S. Department of Justice’s lawsuit to force Democratic officials in our state to comply with federal laws," McClure concluded.
