Western Illinois narrowly defeated by Murray State despite strong start

Western Illinois University faced a narrow defeat against Murray State, with the game ending in a 10-9 loss on Friday afternoon at Johnny Reagan Field. The Leathernecks started strong, scoring three runs in the first inning and adding four more in the third, securing an early 7-0 lead.

Tyler Large had a notable performance, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI double. Kenneth Perez also made significant contributions with four hits, including two doubles, and drove in two runs. Paul Osting contributed to the team's efforts with a two-run home run, while Matt Olive added three hits and two RBIs to the scoreboard.

Despite accumulating 15 hits throughout the game, Western Illinois could not prevent Murray State's late-inning comeback. On the pitching side for WIU, Max Tripure started on the mound, completing four innings and allowing three runs on four hits with two strikeouts.

The Leathernecks hold a record of 2-7 and aim to recover from this loss when they face Murray State again tomorrow. The game is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
