Despite a strong mid-game rally, Western Illinois University (WIU) was unable to fend off Southern Indiana's late surge, resulting in a 6-4 loss at Alfred D. Boyer Stadium on Sunday afternoon. WIU managed a three-run fourth inning with notable performances from Liam Bushey and Kenneth Perez, but defensive errors and timely hitting by the Screaming Eagles were decisive in the final innings.

Southern Indiana took an early lead with a run in the first inning against WIU starter Frederick Romano. After two quiet innings, they added two more runs in the fourth, establishing a 3-0 advantage.

WIU responded in the bottom of the fourth when Krayton Morse hit a solo home run to right field. The Leathernecks tied the game at 3-3 after loading the bases and scoring on a single by Liam Bushey.

However, USI regained control with a run in the sixth inning and added two more insurance runs in the ninth. The Leathernecks had opportunities to respond but left ten runners stranded throughout the game.

Bushey led WIU's offense, going 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI, and two walks. Perez also contributed by going 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Paul Osting drove in another run with a sacrifice fly.

The Leathernecks aim to recover as they travel to face SEMO next weekend. The first pitch is scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m.
