McDonough County Board Human Resources and Planning Committee met April 10.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

The Human Resources and Planning Committee met on Thursday, April 10, 2025 at 7:00 p.m. The meeting was held at the McDonough County Courthouse, 3rd Floor, Law Library. Committee Members in attendance included Chair Ken Durkin, Dustin Berg, Clayton Cook, Mike Kirby, Jerry Raby, Ryan Litchfield, and Dana Walker. Vice Chair Vicky Kipling was absent. Others in attendance included Animal Control Officer Zach Welch, Karen Blakeley, Bonnie Skripps, John Vigezzi, County Chair Eric Blakeley, and Deputy Clerk Deanna Bisby.

Chair Durkin called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Review and Approve Minutes from March 13, 2025

Member Walker moved with a second by Member Raby to approve the minutes as submitted. Motion carried on a voice vote.

Animal Control Report

Animal Control Officer, Zach Welch gave the report. There was 18 dogs and 30 cats in the shelter at the end of March. They had two dog bites, by two different dogs. John Vigezzi asked if they thought the number of dogs being dropped off would increase when the College lets out for summer, Welch does not believe they will.

Humane Society

They have the location for the new shelter, it will be to the East of the current shelter. Ground breaking will be in a few months, they signed a 99-year lease for one dollar for the land. They will be having a comedian show for another fund raiser.

Approval of HR & Planning Claims

Member Raby moved with a second by Member Kirby to approve the HR & Planning claims as submitted. Motion carried on a voice vote.

Approve Mowing Bids for the Animal Shelter

Member Walker moved with a second by Member Berg to Approve the Mowing Bid for the Animal Shelter from Rigg Lawn Service. Motion carried on a voice vote.

None.

County Board Chair Comments

County Chair Blakeley informed the Committee that the concrete around the Courthouse is complete but that there is a crack in one of the sidewalks. An estimate was received for sewer work at the Courthouse, this will be on the full Board agenda for approval.

Member Berg moved with a second by Member Raby to adjourn the meeting at 7:21 p.m. Motion carried on a voice vote.
