Western Illinois University's men's soccer team secured a 3-2 win over Bradley on Wednesday night in Macomb. The match saw the Braves take an early lead with a penalty kick in the sixth minute, but Western Illinois responded quickly.
Xavier Gagnon scored twice for the Leathernecks in the first half, with goals in the 28th minute and just before halftime, bringing the score to 2-2 at the break. In the second half, Liam Gainey put Western Illinois ahead with a goal in the 51st minute.
After taking the lead, Western Illinois' defense limited Bradley to four shots during the remainder of the match. The Leathernecks recorded 19 shots overall, nine of which were on target, and earned four corner kicks. They outshot Bradley 19-11 and held a 9-5 advantage in shots on goal. Goalkeeper Micah Ramirez made three saves in the second half to help secure the victory.
With this result, Western Illinois improved its season record to 2-3-0 and will next face Green Bay on Saturday.
