The Western Illinois University women's tennis team participated in the Redbird Duals over the weekend, achieving several wins in both singles and doubles matches.
On Friday, the team started strong with two doubles victories. Richardlyne Francois and Jessica Hess defeated a pair from Saint Louis 6-4, while Nadezhda Petkova and Mana Fawcett secured a 6-2 win. In singles play, Chloé Routier won against Bradley's Mariia Pukhina in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5. Maarja Leinstrep also earned a singles victory by defeating Bradley's Compassion Tsai 6-0, 7-6(3). Denver Johnson rounded out the day with a 6-0, 6-3 win over E. Chote of Saint Louis.
During Saturday’s matches, Leinstrep picked up another win against Illinois State’s Lindh with a score of 6-4 before her opponent retired due to injury. Francois, Routier, Johnson, and Fawcett played competitive matches against Illinois State but were narrowly defeated. Hess was leading ISU's Iosio 6-3, 2-2 when play was stopped.
The Leathernecks are now preparing for their upcoming Ohio Valley Conference match-up in Brentwood, Tennessee on September 26–27.
