Western Illinois University’s women’s volleyball team lost in three sets to the Little Rock Trojans on Thursday evening at Western Hall. The Leathernecks had periods of strong play both offensively and defensively, but were unable to overcome Little Rock’s consistent attack.

In the first set, Little Rock established an early lead with effective offense. Keyana Cruse and Kennedy Adair led Western Illinois’ efforts on the outside, contributing to a late push that included two blocks. Despite these efforts, Little Rock took the set 25-15.

The second set saw Western Illinois improve offensively, recording 11 kills as they settled into their rhythm. Cruse continued to lead the attack, while setter Jaleah Bauss distributed the ball consistently. The teams were tied several times midway through the frame before Little Rock pulled ahead for a 25-18 win.

Little Rock started strong again in the third set, but Western Illinois kept fighting with key plays from Grace Kremer and Hillary Estes. Defensively, Cruse and Grace Ulatowski provided solid coverage in the back row. Ultimately, Little Rock maintained its momentum to secure a 25-15 victory and close out the match.

Cruse finished as Western Illinois’ leader with seven kills and 12 digs. Adair contributed six kills and one block; Kremer added three kills and a solo block. Bauss tallied 12 assists, while Ulatowski had four digs.

Western Illinois will have another opportunity against Little Rock when they host them again at Western Hall on November 7 at 2 p.m.
