The Jacksonville District No. 117 Board of Education met Wednesday to approve the hires of new physical education teachers.

The Jacksonville District #117 Board of Education meets at 7 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month.

Jacksonville School District 117 Board of Education Special June 22, 2016 The Board of Education of Jacksonville School District 117 met in Special Session on Wednesday, June 22, 2016, beginning at 5:00 PM at the Central Office, 516 Jordan Street. Members present at roll call were Mrs. Ballard, Mr. Beard, Mr. Cantrell, Mr. Lonergan, Mrs. Maul and Ms. Wagner. Also in attendance were Superintendent, Steve Ptacek, and Chief Financial Officer, Jamie Hadjan. RECEPTION OF VISITORS, PETITIONS AND COMMUNICATIONS – None APPROVAL OF AGENDA – Mr. Beard suggested the Agenda be amended to add a Closed Session for personnel before Action Items. Mr. Cantrell moved, seconded by Mr. Lonergan to approve the amended agenda. Roll: Cantrell, Lonergan, Maul, Wagner, Ballard and Beard. Nay; None. REPORTS – Mr. Ptacek reported on the state of the State budget. There are no changes to report. Mr. Ptacek has been invited to a rally in Vandalia to ask the legislature to pass a budget. More information will be provided as it becomes available. Right now there are four plans: 1) Rauner’s plan is to fully fund the schools’ GSA amount 2) SB231 3) Two other equity plans In other news, Mr. Ptacek reported that he has been approached by community members who would be interested in partnering with JSD to develop training classes for students at JHS. The businesses in Jacksonville are having difficulty getting quality applicants for fire fighters, EMT’s and others. Mr. Ptacek said he would like to see a seminar course that will allow students to interact with Morgan County employers. It would be beneficial for the students as well as our community to develop a skilled workforce for our community. Mr. Wagner suggested this offering should be available beginning with Sophomore year. INTO CLOSED SESSION – Mr. Lonergan moved, seconded by Ms. Wagner to adjourn to Closed Session at 5:19pm for The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body or legal counsel for the public body, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee of the public body or against legal counsel for the public body to determine its validity. 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(1), as amended by P.A. 93- 0057. Roll: Lonergan, Wagner, Maul, Cantrell, Ballard and Beard. Nay; None. RETURN TO OPEN SESSION – Mr. Cantrell moved, seconded by Mr. Lonergan to return to Open Session at 5:38pm. ACTION ITEMS Authorization to Seek Bids for Sprinklers for #30 Central Park Plaza- Mrs. Maul moved, seconded by Mrs. Ballard to authorize administration to seek bids for sprinklers for Crossroads Learning Center at #30 North Central Park Plaza. Roll: Maul, Ballard, Wagner, Lonergan, Cantrell and Beard. Nay; None. Board of Education 2 June 22, 2016 Special ____________________________________ ___________________________________ President Secretary Personnel Recommendations – Mrs. Ballard moved, seconded by Ms. Wagner to approve the personnel recommendations as presented: Resignation ? Charlotte Bangert, Elementary Music Teacher at Lincoln Elementary and North Elementary, effective June 20, 2016. Employment-Certified ? Cliff Cameron, Part-Time Physical Education Teacher at JHS, Salary Schedule: MA, Step A: $37,243/per year (prorated -.60 FTE - $124.14 per diem or $22,345.80/per year (Probationary Year 1), effective August 18, 2016, contingent upon receipt of required employment documentation. ? Kendall Gibson, Primary/Intermediate Teacher at Eisenhower Elementary School, Salary Schedule: BA, Step C: $33,586/per year (Probationary Year 1), effective August 18, 2016, contingent upon receipt of required employment documentation. ? Madelyn Keith, Physical Education Teacher at JHS, Salary: BA, Step A: $33,090/per year (Probationary Year 1), effective August 18, 2016, contingent upon receipt of required employment documentation. Contract Employment – Intern ? Emily Pacini, Historical Archive Intern, for up to 20 hours per week, effective June 6, 2016 through July 29, 2016, Salary: $8.25/per hour. Employment-Modifications/Re-Assignments/Promotions/Transfers ? Terry Lewis, part-time (.50 FTE) Floater Custodian promoted to full-time (1.00 FTE) Night Custodian at Lincoln Elementary School/Special Services & Pre-Kindergarten Center, Salary: $21.69/per hour, effective June 23, 2016. ? Don Grubb, Night Head Custodian at JHS promoted to Day Head Custodian at JHS, Salary: $22.04 per hour, effective June 23, 2016. Leaves of Absence ? Gerald Love, Head Custodian at Turner Junior High School, requesting extension to Americans with Disabilities Act leave from June 20, 2016 until June 27, 2016. Employment-Modifications/Re-Assignments/Promotions/Transfers ? Carey Weber, Director of Early Years/Pre-Kindergarten Program, additional 12 days for 4 ½ hours for a total of 54 hours for Summer School through June 30, 2016, $45.62/hour ($365/per diem) for a total of $2,463.72. ? Bobbie Biggs, part-time (.69 FTE) Food Service Worker at JHS increase of hours to (.72 FTE) Food Service worker at JHS, no change in hourly wage, effective August 22, 2016. Stipends ? Dana Fricke, Geography Bowl at South Elementary School for the 2016-2017 school year, stipend split at 50% - Stipend: $311.14, 2% on the base of $31,114. ? Rebecca Dunlap, Geography Bowl at South Elementary School for the 2016-2017 school year, stipend split at 50% - Stipend: $311.14, 2% on the base of $31,114.
