The Jersey Community Unit School District 100 is implementing a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy for the 2016 school year, allowing students to use personally owned, wi-fi enabled devices at Illini and Jersey Community high schools.

The teachers will be integrating the use of Web 2.0 tools, internet research and applications into their lesson plans. The goal of the BYOD policy is to help students be ready for higher education and the workforce in an ever-growing technological society.

This includes the ability to gather research on the internet and create high volume and extensive print and non-print projects. This goal is a facet of the new Core Standards Curriculum which many public schools now use.

Students may only have Wireless 802.11 n or ac compatible devices (wi-fi 3G/4G is not permitted in school) with audio connection. Students will also need to supply their own earbuds or headphones.

There is a $25 non-refundable/non-proratable fee for access to the student wi-fi. This fee is not eligible for the technology grant but it does replace the $85 technology fee from previous years.
