The McDonough County Law & Legal Committee met Jan. 9 to work on the county drug ordinance.

January 9, 2017
The Law & Legal Committee held its monthly meeting on Monday, January 9, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. The meeting was held at the McDonough County Courthouse in the Law Library. Committee members present included Chairman Travis Hiel, Jerome Anderson, Alice Henry, Clarke Kelso, Bob Mahr, Rod McGrew and Robert Shouse. Members George Dixon and County Board Chairman Scott Schwerer were absent. Other persons in attendance were Patrick Stout, Dave Schaab, Tim Lobdell, Veteran’s Superintendent Ric Smart and Chief Deputy Nick Petitgout. Beth Jameson was present as committee secretary.
Chairman Hiel called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
Review & Approve December 12, 2016 Minutes Member Henry moved with second by Member Shouse to approve the December 12, 2016 minutes as submitted. Motion carried on a voice vote.
Waste Management Update Dave Schaab presented the monthly report. He noted that the Industrial (Exempt) Special Waste was the highest he recalls at the landfill. The 6,452 tons of Special Waste from Hancock County put them as contributing 68% of the month’s waste. The report also contained numbers per county without the special waste.
Tri-County R & WM Report Tim Lobdell reviewed the monthly report. It contained: facility totals, contract for 2017 with Dynamic Recycling addendum to reflect a 2-year length and delivery on December 13th of the new truck. The next Tri-County Board meeting is scheduled for January 23rd, there are no real issues pending so he will contact committee members if the meeting is cancelled.
Veteran’s Assistance and Van Report Veteran’s Superintendent Ric Smart presented the monthly report. Eight veterans were given assistance in December amounting to $ 1,758.48. The transportation van made 16 trips to Iowa City transporting 39 Veterans.
Sheriff’s Report Chief Deputy Nick Petitgout presented the monthly report. The Sheriff and State’s Attorney Kwacala are working on a County Drug Ordinance. There should be a draft to review next month. The possible fine revenue could be $ 18,000 annually.
They have purchased two new squads. The County Work Crew has been helping with the remodel of the State’s Attorney’s office.
Assessor’s Office Update County Board Office Administrator Jameson reported that the Abstract has been sent to the State.
Claims Review and Approval Member Henry moved with second by Member Mahr to approve the claims as submitted. Motion carried on a voice vote.
Other With no further business to discuss, Chairman Hiel called for a motion to adjourn. Member McGrew moved with second by Member Henry to adjourn the meeting at 7:21 p.m.
