Meeting Convened
The Board of Education of School District No. 172, Adams County, Illinois, met in special session March 9, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. in the Board of Education Office, Room 214, located at 1416 Maine Street, Quincy, Illinois, in said school district.
Roll Call
The meeting was called to order by President Ali, who directed the secretary to call the roll. On the call of theroll, the following members were present and answered to their names: Members Ali, Bailey, Nichols, Rose, Troup, and Whitfield; and the following member was absent: Member McNay. Whereupon the President declared a quorum was present.
Pledge of Allegiance
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Superintendent Webb.
Questions and Comments
President Ali opened the meeting to questions and comments to members of the Board, by members of the public and employees of the district, in compliance with state statutes. Mr. Jeff Kerkhoff asked questions about the student population of the new schools being “equal” with regards to religion, eye color and other factors. Mr. Murphy responded that the new schools will be “balanced” with regards to socio-economics, IEP’s, etc.
Approve Dedication of Highway Right-of-Way on 48th & Columbus Road.
It was moved by Member Troup and seconded by Member Nichols to approve the Dedication of Right of Way 48th & Columbus Road (Doc. Reg. No. 2919). On the call of the roll, the following members voted Aye: Members Ali, Bailey, Nichols, Rose, Troup, and Whitfield; and the following member was absent: Member McNay. Whereupon the President declared the motion carried.
Sale of Part of Property – 48th & Columbus
It was moved by Member Troup and seconded by Member Bailey to approve the Resolution Providing for the Sale of School Real Property as Part of the North 48th Street and Columbus Road School Site (Doc. Reg. No. 2920). On the call of the roll, the following members voted Aye: Members Ali, Bailey, Nichols, Rose, Troup; and Whitfield; and the following member was absent: Member McNay. Whereupon the President declared the
motion carried.
Amendment to Superintendent’s Contract
President Ali said the Board is presenting a five-year contract extension to Superintendent Webb. He said this will provide the district with needed stability. He said Superintendent Webb was hesitant to agree to a long-term contract when his employees were working on a one-year agreement. He said he told him that this organization would see it as a superintendent finally willing to make a long-term commitment to our students and community. Quincy Public Schools should not be viewed as a steppingstone but viewed as a destination. The Board feels Superintendent Webb can help make this happen again.
