Quincy-area residents expressed their surprise and delight at Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan’s announcement that she will not seek re-election by posting comments on radio station WGEM's Facebook page.

“Don’t need a crime family running Illinois,” L.R. Murdock posted.

“Good riddance,” Phillip Schmiedeskamp wrote. “The only way to get rid of these leeches in Illinois is for them to retire or die.”

Some respondents went so far as saying Madigan's decision to step down wasn't enough.

"If her old man would only do the same," Tom Lawless posted, referring to Madigan's father, House Speaker Michael Madigan (D-Chicago).

"Yes good riddance to you and your father also they have destroyed this state. Ugh," Rich Robinson wrote.

"Take your Dad with you," Luz Chandler Teal commented.

"One down one to go," Dwayne Walters posted.

Lisa Madigan has said she is not seeking another government office in 2018, nor will she run for Chicago mayor in 2019, as some have speculated.

“I hope she is not looking at the governors office,” Bo Walters wrote on Facebook.

“There is enough idiots in this state that will put her in that seat,” Bill Redman posted.

Madigan has been attorney general for 14 years. Her term will end in 2019.
