Taylorville FD responds to 72 fires in 2016

Taylorville Fire Department responded to 172 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the West Central Reporter.

The calls in Taylorville included 72 fires - 28 structure fires, six vehicle fires and 37 other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $1,230,600 in fire loss - or about $17,092 per fire.

The department also received 100 false calls.

One fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents.

The Taylorville Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has 17 active employees and 12 retired or inactive employees, was $449,297 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $6,240 for every fire in 2016.
