A three-row corn head and four-row planter were just two of the pieces of research equipment and spare parts Western Illinois University’s (WIU) School of Agriculture recently received from Wyffels Hybrids. The equipment will help the students streamline planting and harvesting next year.
"The newer technology embedded in the combine and planter will be able to speed up our operations in the spring and the fall with hopes in reducing our costs, as well," Andy Baker, WIU School of Agriculture director, said in a university release. "We certainly appreciate being on Wyffels' short list and hope we can continue our positive relationship with them well into the future."
WIU is only one of the universities who benefit from Wyffels Hybrids' support; schools throughout the upper Midwest are aided by the company in different ways, the release said. In addition to corn growers in Illinois, Wyffels Hybrids serve growers in Iowa, southwestern Minnesota, southeastern South Dakota, southern Wisconsin and the Ohio River Valley.
"We feel the success of all public university research is important to corn growers, and a rich part of Wyffels Hybrids' roots as a company," Blake Wyffels, customer relations manager for the company, said in the release.
Wyffels Hybrids is headquartered in Geneseo.
