Here is the agenda provided by the Board:

1.0 Call to Order by Mr. Siegfried, School Board President

The board meeting was called to order at 6:02 p.m. by President Michael Siegfried.

2.0 Roll Call

Present: Mrs. Kyle, Mrs. Little, Mrs. Poe, Mr. Schmitz, Mr. Siegfried, Mrs. Snyder, Mrs. Stevenson.

Also Present: Mr. Young, Mr. Ayer, Mrs. Miller.

3.0 Pledge of Allegiance

4.0 Approval of Minutes

4.01 Approve Regular Meeting Minutes for November 2017

Mrs. Snyder made the motion to approve the regular meeting minutes for November 2017 with a second by Mrs. Kyle.

Ayes-7, Nays-0. Motion carried.

5.0 Financials

5.01 Pay Bills for November 2017

Mr. Schmitz made the motion to pay the bills for November 2017 with a second by Mrs. Poe.

Mrs. Kyle-Yes, Mrs. Little-Yes, Mrs. Poe-Yes, Mr. Schmitz-Yes, Mr. Siegfried-Yes, Mrs. Snyder-Yes, Mrs. Stevenson- Yes. Motion carried.

5.02 Approve Financial and Treasurer Report for November 2017

Mrs. Little made the motion to approve the financial and treasurer report for November 2017 with a second by Mrs. Stevenson.

Mrs. Kyle-Yes, Mrs. Little-Yes, Mrs. Poe-Yes, Mr. Schmitz-Yes, Mr. Siegfried-Yes, Mrs. Snyder-Yes, Mrs. Stevenson- Yes. Motion carried.

This year N-C spent $954,979 in the education fund compared to $834,257 spent in the education fund last year. In the operation and maintenance fund, N-C spent $84,560 this year compared to last year the district had spent $111,222. The district spent $128,552 in the transportation fund compared to $145,731 last year. The district spent $1,168,091 this year compared to $1,091,210 last year at this time in those three funds for a difference of $76,881 more this year compared to last year.

The 30th of November completed 42% of the 2018 fiscal year. The district expended 35.8% of the education budget, 25.2% of the operations and maintenance budget, and 38.4% of the transportation budget.

Fund balances as of November 30, 2017: Education: $1,497,692 Operation and Maintenance: $559,988 Transportation: $279,140 and Working Cash: $175,972. The four Major Fund Balances: $2,494,792. Total Fund Balance for all funds: $3,683,109.

Fund balances as of November 30, 2016: Education: $1,209,746 Building: $478,946 Transportation: $219,136 and Working Cash: $133,529. The four Major Fund Balances: $2,041,357. Total Fund Balance for all funds: $3,106,649.

The district has $453,435 more this year compare to last year in the four major funds. The district has $576,460 more this year compared to last year in total fund balance.

6.0 Recognition of the Members of the Audience

6.01 Public Comment

There was no public comment.

7.0 Superintendent’s Report

7.01 Consider the Enrollment Figures at the End of the Semester

Mr. Young reported the following enrollment figures: Elementary School: 129 students in PreK-6th, 23 N-C students in 7th grade, 37 Warsaw students in 7th grade, 24 N-C students in 8th grade, 30 Warsaw students in 8th grade for a total of 243 students in the elementary building. N-C has 94 high school students attending Warsaw High School.

7.02 Consider the School Board Committee Assignments

Mr. Siegfried made one change in the original list by adding Mrs. Kyle to the Curriculum Committee and removing Mrs. Little. The committees are now as follows:

Policy: Mrs. Kyle/Mrs. Snyder

Curriculum: Mrs. Kyle/Mrs. Stevenson

Finance: Mr. Schmitz/Mrs. Kyle

Personnel: Mrs. Poe/Mrs. Little

Transportation: Mrs. Snyder/Mrs. Poe

Building/Grounds: Mrs. Stevenson/Mr. Schmitz

Deactivation: Mr. Siegfried/Mrs. Little

7.03 Consider Dates for the Administration, School Board Curriculum Committee, and the 3rd -Junior High Teachers to Look at Common Core Math Textbooks for Adoption by School Board

Mr. Young reported samples have been received from the Singapore Math. The district has 90 days to review the books before payment would be required. Mr. Young and Mr. Ayer will make arrangements to meet with the school board curriculum committee and the 3rd through Junior High teachers on this subject.

7.04 Consider the First Reading of the Updated Policies

Mrs. Snyder handed out information for a superintendent evaluation to the board. She would appreciate feedback and asked everyone to review the information, fill out the form and return it to her.

7.05 Transportation Report

Mr. Young reported there was slight damage to the white activity bus today. The maintenance crew was removing the metal gates in the bus pen when the wind caught the gate panel. It hit the activity bus and caused minor damage. The stop arm was broken, the grill was damaged, and there was a slight dent in the hood. It will be taken to Melton’s Garage for an estimate and repair.

7.06 Elementary Report

Mr. Ayer’s report was included in the board packet.

7.07 Other

Mr. Young has been approached by Coach Pinkston about possibly hosting a high school boys’ basketball game at our school on Friday, February 9, 2018 to honor the 1998 State Championship Team. This has not been confirmed yet.

8.0 Action Items

8.01 Consider the Adoption of Dates, Times, and Place of the Regular School Board Meetings

Mrs. Little made the motion to approve the school meeting dates as presented with a second by Mrs. Stevenson. After some discussion, Mrs. Little amended the motion to approve the school meeting dates as presented with the meeting time to be changed to 6:30 p.m. with a second by Mrs. Stevenson This change will take effect in January. The meetings will be on the third Mondays of each month unless the third Monday falls on a school holiday. The meetings are on the second Monday of those months. The place is at the Nauvoo-Colusa Elementary School. Mrs. Kyle-Yes, Mrs. Little-Yes, Mrs. Poe-Yes, Mr. Schmitz-Yes, Mr. Siegfried-Yes, Mrs. Snyder-Yes, Mrs. Stevenson- Yes. Motion carried.

9.0 Communications and Correspondence

9.01 Christmas Winter Break- No School December 25, 2017 through January 1, 2018

9.02 Regular School Board Meeting- January 08, 2018- 6:30 p.m.

9.03 Martin Luther King Jr Day- No School- January 15, 2018

9.04 Teacher Institute- February 5, 2018

9.05 Regular School Board Meeting- February 12, 2018- 6:30 p.m.

9.06 President’s Day- No School February 19, 2018

9.07 Regular School Board Meeting- March 19, 2018- 6:30 p.m.

10.0 Adjournment

Mrs. Poe made the motion to adjourn the meeting at 6:35 p.m. with a second by Mrs. Kyle.
