Hancock County ranks 89th in total sales taxes paid in Illinois during 2024

Hancock County taxpayers ranked 89th in total sales taxes paid per county in 2024, according to Illinois tax records.

In total, residents paid $796,585 in sales taxes during 2024.

The county ranked 90th in the Prairie State the year before, with $772,252 spent in sales taxes.

The largest share of sales taxes paid by Hancock County residents in 2024 came from the County Sales Tax.

The County Sales Tax is a local sales tax imposed on retail sales of goods and services within a specific county. It is one of the primary sources of revenue for county governments, funding a wide range of essential services, including education, infrastructure, public safety, public health, and social services. The average rate imposed in Illinois is around 8.2%.
