Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

The West Prairie School District #103 Board of Education met on March 8, 2018, at 7:00 p.m., in a regularly scheduled meeting at West Prairie Middle School. Board members present were: Scott Vogler, Lee Moore, Sherrie Weaver, Lisa Butterfield, and David Geltmacher. Members absent: Matt Zimmerman, Matt Mencel. Matt Mencel arrived at 7:40 p.m.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE:

The Board and audience stood and recited the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

COMMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC:

There were no comments from the public.

EXECUTIVE SESSION:

Moore moved and Weaver seconded to enter into executive session at 7:05 p.m. to consider the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body or legal counsel for the public body, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee of the public body or against legal counsel for the public body to determine its validity. However, a meeting to consider an increase in compensation to a specific employee of a public body that is subject to the Local Government Wage Increase Transparency Act may not be closed and shall be open to the public and posted and held in accordance with this Act. 5 ILCS 120/2 (c) (1). Those members on roll call voting “aye”: Vogler, Moore, Weaver, Butterfield, and Geltmacher. Nays: None. The motion carried.

RETURN TO OPEN SESSION:

Weaver moved and Butterfield seconded to return to open session at 7:22 p.m. Those members on roll call voting “aye”: Vogler, Moore, Weaver, Butterfield, and Geltmacher. Nays: None. The motion carried.

ADOPT THE RESOLUTION REFERENCE THE DISMISSAL OF A PROFESSIONAL EDUCATOR LICENSED (PEL) EMPLOYEE:

Weaver moved and Geltmacher seconded to adopt the Resolution for the Dismissal of Dan Hook as a Professional Educator Licensed (PEL) employee and that the Superintendent by authorized to deliver or cause to be delivered the Notice to that employee as specified in the Resolution. Those members on roll call voting “aye”: Vogler, Moore, Weaver, Butterfield, and Geltmacher. Nays: None. The motion carried.

EMPLOYMENT OF LICENSED STAFF:

Moore moved and Butterfield seconded to employ fourth year probationary teacher David Coupland for the 2018-2019 school year. Those members on roll call voting “aye”: Vogler, Moore, Weaver, Butterfield, and Geltmacher. Nays: None. The motion carried.

Weaver moved and Geltmacher seconded to employ fourth year probationary teacher Katie Oursler for the 2018-2019 school year. Those members on roll call voting “aye”: Vogler, Moore, Weaver, Butterfield, and Geltmacher. Nays: None. The motion carried.

Butterfield moved and Weaver seconded to employ third year probationary teacher Erin Wiley for the 2018-2019 school year. Those members on roll call voting “aye”: Vogler, Weaver, Butterfield, and Geltmacher. Nays: None. Abstain – Moore. The motion carried.

Moore moved and Geltmacher seconded to employ third year probationary teacher Danielle Van Winkle for the 2018-2019 school year. Those members on roll call voting “aye”: Vogler, Moore, Weaver, Butterfield, and Geltmacher. Nays: None. The motion carried.

Weaver moved and Butterfield seconded to employ third year probationary teacher Amy Carson for the 2018-2019 school year. Those members on roll call voting “aye”: Vogler, Moore, Weaver, Butterfield, and Geltmacher. Nays: None. The motion carried.

Butterfield moved and Weaver seconded to employ second year probationary teacher Sam DeCounter for the 2018-2019 school year. Those members on roll call voting “aye”: Vogler, Moore, Weaver, Butterfield, and Geltmacher. Nays: None. The motion carried.

Butterfield moved and Geltmacher seconded to employ first year probationary teacher Melissa Burt for the 2018-2019 school year. Those members on roll call voting “aye”: Vogler, Moore, Weaver, Butterfield, and Geltmacher. Nays: None. The motion carried.

Moore moved and Weaver seconded to employ first year probationary teacher Heather DeCounter for the 2018-2019 school year. Those members on roll call voting “aye”: Vogler, Moore, Weaver, Butterfield, and Geltmacher. Nays: None. The motion carried.

Weaver moved and Butterfield seconded to employ first year probationary teacher John McCormick for the 2018-2019 school year. Those members on roll call voting “aye”: Vogler, Moore, Weaver, Butterfield, and Geltmacher. Nays: None. The motion carried.

Vogler moved and Butterfield seconded to extend the contract (by one year) of Crista Rigg (Business Manager) with a 2% increase on the base salary. Those members on roll call voting “aye”: Vogler, Moore, Weaver, Butterfield, and Geltmacher. Nays: None. The motion carried.

Butterfield moved and Geltmacher seconded to approve Rhonda Huston as a volunteer WPMS track coach for the 2018 spring season. Those members on roll call voting “aye”: Vogler, Moore, Weaver, Butterfield, and Geltmacher. Nays: None. The motion carried.

Moore moved and Butterfield seconded to hire Jolyn Whitman as a part-time paraprofessional at North Elementary (Pre-K/Special Education) for the remainder of the 2017-2018 school year. Those members on roll call voting “aye”: Vogler, Moore, Weaver, Butterfield, and Geltmacher. Nays: None. The motion carried.

ACCEPT RESIGNATION:

Weaver moved and Geltmacher seconded to accept the irrevocable resignation of Regan Chatterton (WPHS Science) effective the end of the 2017-2018 school year with thanks for his service to the district. President Vogler called for a voice vote. Those members voting “aye”: Vogler, Moore, Weaver, Butterfield, and Geltmacher. Nays: None. The motion carried.

APPROVE LEAVE OF ABSENCE:

Weaver moved and Butterfield seconded to approve 4.0 Dock Days for Erin Wiley. Those members on roll call voting “aye”: Vogler, Weaver, Butterfield, and Geltmacher. Nays: None. Abstain: Moore. The motion carried.
