Committee Reports:
Employee/Staff Management: Board meetings for 2018 have been scheduled on the first
Thursday at 5:15 p.m. in the Mayor’s Conference Room for the coming months. The board
voted to move the April board meeting from Thursday, April 5 to Saturday, April 7 to coincide
with the session with the museum consultant and to change the location of the meeting from the
Mayor’s Conference Room to the Jacksonville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau (310 E. State
St.)
The proposed schedule for the April 7 meeting will begin with a brief tour of the Old Post Office
building followed by discussion on Governance & Administration, Collections, Research &
Interpretation, and Financial Resources. After a break for a catered lunch, Physical Resources
and Audience & Community will be covered.
The donation card for the upcoming museum membership list mailer still needs to be printed
before the letter is ready to be sent out.
Volunteer Recruitment/Management: Intern Trevor Lawson is recovering from back surgery.
Fundraising and Budgeting: No report.
Acquisitions/Archives & Historian: Several potential donations, including items from the
Capps Factory, have resulted from persons viewing the display at Jacksonville Savings Bank.
Exhibits/Facilities: John Power reported that work continues at the Old Post Office Building.
David Blanchette dropped off floor plans of the building’s basement to the Jacksonville
Genealogical Society for consideration of possible shared space.
The temporary exhibit at Jacksonville Savings Bank has been taken down and items will be
returned to storage with assistance offered by the bank. The recently-announced sale of the bank
hopefully won’t affect future plans for exhibits there. It was decided to set up the next temporary
exhibit at the Jacksonville Public Library, using previously-displayed material on the
Jacksonville Plan of 1925 once the box that it is stored in is located. James Pisell will send out
an email to select a date for anyone available to meet to go through stored items to retrieve that
box as well as look for items for the Bicentennial exhibit.
Special Events/Public Education & Promotion: No report.
Interns: Intern Trevor Lawson’s work has been temporarily put on hold while he recovers from
back surgery.
Old Business: John Power brought up the recent sale of the Congregational Church and
mentioned that it contains the Joy Prairie museum which may need a new home in the future.
New Business: Steve Varble suggested that it was time to start thinking about another
fundraiser since has been around a year since planning began for the Ken Bradbury play held last
summer. He will check with Ken to see about possibly hosting another play. Dave Blanchette
will check with Judy Tighe to see if Jacksonville Main Street has any downtown events
scheduled in the coming months that the museum could take part in.
There were no public comments.
The next meeting will be held on Thursday, March 1, 5:15 p.m. in the Mayor’s
Conference Room at the Municipal Building.
With no further business or announcements to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 5:55 p.m.
