McDonough District Hospital issued the following announcement on April 27.

During a special Friday afternoon (April 27) meeting of the McDonough District Hospital Board of Directors, President/CEO Kenny Boyd announced his resignation effective this summer.

According to MDH Board of Directors Chairman Dr. Rick Iverson, an interim President/CEO will be announced in the near future. A national search will begin to find Boyd’s replacement.

Boyd stated he was offered and accepted a Senior Executive level job at a healthcare facility in Tennessee, a location closer to his family.

“The past seven years at MDH have been an exciting time in my career. I have been blessed in working with a fantastic Board, Medical Staff and employee team who are truly focused on providing great care to our patients and continuously working to improve our organization. This team has worked to continue to make MDH successful in this time of unprecedented change in our industry as well as the unique challenges we face with the state’s economic instability,” said Boyd. “None of these issues or challenges has ever taken our teams focus off of what’s most important and that is patient care. They have proven this by their recognition as a Top 100 Small and Rural Community Hospital, back-to-back ‘A’ grades from the Leapfrog group for patient safety and a Most Wired Recognition for the utilization of Information Technology in patient care. These recognitions just scratch the surface of recognizing the great work they do every day.

“It is because of them and the community of Macomb as a whole that it is with mixed emotion that I announce my intention to resign this summer. I truly appreciate the opportunity to have worked with such an amazing group of care givers and volunteers and truly believe MDH will continue to be a vibrant organization providing care to the residents of west-central Illinois for many years to come,” said Boyd.

Boyd joined MDH in July 2011 in his current role as President and Chief Executive Officer. While successfully leading McDonough District Hospital through an unprecedented time of healthcare changes and budgetary challenges, Boyd plays an active role in helping shape the current state of healthcare around the state of Illinois and economic development locally.

On a statewide level, Boyd is a member of the Illinois Health and Hospital Association and the IHA Venture Association Corporation Board. Locally, Boyd is actively involved with the McDonough County YMCA Board, Macomb Area Economic Development Corporation Board, Macomb Noon Rotary, and serves as Chair of the Macomb Area Chamber of Commerce Government Relations Committee.

During his seven years in charge, Boyd has led MDH through several building and service expansions to better serve the residents of west-central Illinois.

The Convenient Care clinic inside Hy-Vee opened in 2011, the Health Services Building 2 expansion took place in 2012, and in 2014 the Bushnell Family Practice facility was built.

Three years ago, MDH completed facility expansion work on three floors - the Emergency Services, second floor Senior Behavioral Health, and third floor Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation services. The MDH Board announced finalized plans for the Dolores Kator Switzer Women’s Center expansion, which has recently began survey work.

Under Boyd’s leadership, McDonough District Hospital has continued to provide quality healthcare to the people in the region. Last year MDH earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Hospital and Home Care, was named a ‘Top 100’ Rural and Community Hospital by Becker’s Hospital Review, and a ‘Most Wired’ honor from the American Hospital Association’s Health Forum. Earlier this week, it was announced by The Leapfrog Group that MDH earned its second consecutive ‘A’ grade for patient safety – just one of 23 hospitals across Illinois to earn consecutive As during the Fall 2017 and Spring 2018 grading periods.

Boyd joined McDonough District Hospital after spending five years at the Girard Medical Center in Girard, Kansas.

“On behalf of the MDH Board of Directors, I want to thank Kenny for his years of service. He did an excellent job leading our hospital through some difficult budgetary times. We appreciate all he did to make MDH a better place to work at while serving the patients in our area. We wish Kenny and his family all the best in their future endeavors,” said Dr. Iverson.
