Winchester Volunteer Fire Department responded to 14 calls in 2017 - 40 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Winchester included 14 fires - two structure fires, four vehicle fires and eight other fires.

In all, the department saw $252,000 in fire loss - or about $18,000 per fire.
