City of Hamilton City Council met March 19.

The Hamilton City Council met in regular session at 7:00 pm with Mayor Walter Sellens, Aldermen Bob Eddings, Dave Bierbaum, Bill Johnson, Beverly Boone, Steve Schlatter, and Debbie Summers answering roll call.
Mayor Sellens led everyone in the “Pledge of Allegiance”.
Sellens asked for a moment of silence for States Attorney, Jason Pohren.
Sellens asked for a motion to approve the minutes of the March 5, 2018 meeting. Johnson made a motion to approve the minutes. Bierbaum seconded the motion. Roll was called with Eddings, Bierbaum, Johnson, Boone, Schlatter and Summers voting aye. Motion carried with 6 aye votes and no nay votes.
Mayor Sellens asked for approval from the Council to continue to speak with The Connable Trust regarding the City’s request for them to annex into the City Limits. Bierbaum made a motion to approve Mayor Sellens contacting and continuing to work on this. Eddings seconded the motion. Roll was called with Bierbaum, Johnson, Boone, Schlatter, Summers and Eddings voting aye. Motion carried with 6 aye votes and no nay votes.
Mayor Sellens reported that the ambulance is set to tentatively be coming to Hamilton on July 1, 2018. Dr. Hollis accepted the City’s request to use their building next to the Veterinary Clinic to house the Ambulance.
Finance & Appropriations:
Eddings reported the Finance committee will hold a meeting on March 26th at 5:15 pm to review budgets.
Eddings reported that the City had received the following deposits:
•March 5$ 1,254.35Circuit Clerk’s Fines
•March 12$12,975.77State Sales Tax
•March 12$ 1,156.59Personal Property Replacement Tax
•March 19$ 2,545.87Video Gaming Tax
•March 19$16,318.51State Income Tax
•March 19$ 9,443.30Use Tax
Eddings made a motion to approve the Treasurer’s Report. Schlatter seconded the motion. Roll was called with Johnson, Boone, Schlatter, Summers, Eddings, and Bierbaum voting aye. Motion carried with 6 aye votes and no nay votes.
Public Works & Buildngs:
Mayor Sellens recognized Trish Maerz for her role in making quality water and sewer services possible to the Citizens of Hamilton. Thank you.
Street:
Bierbaum reported the Public Works and Buildings Committee held a meeting on Thursday, March 8th at 5:30pm. He noted they reviewed the budget items to be ready for Finance.
Bierbaum reported that the Public Works and Buildings Committee will hold a meeting on Thursday, March 22nd at 5:00pm to review the Water/Sewer portion of the budget.
Bierbaum reported that the committee had discussed the purchase of a paver for the street department. He noted that Ryan Boley had found one at Altorfer Inc. in Cedar Rapids, IA. The Price of the 2012 Lee Boy 8510B Paver is $60,000.00. The committee suggested transferring the appropriated line item amount from #01-59-1-413-01 Emergency Use to #01-59-6-494-00 Equipment to allow for the paver to be purchased this fiscal year. Ryan Boley reported that he had spoke with Pat Poepping and we would still be able to buy the paving material through the MFT fund. Ryan reported that 8 hours of training will be included. Bierbaum made a motion to approve the purchase and transferring of the above lines items. Schlatter seconded the motion. Roll was called with Boone, Schlatter, Summers, Eddings, Bierbaum and Johnson voting aye. Motion carried with 6 aye votes and no nay votes.
Water/Sewer:
Schlatter had nothing new to report at this time for Water and Sewer Committee.
Building And Grounds:
Johnson reported that he had purchased tips to put on the bottom of the chairs to help with the scratching of the floors. Schlatter reported that he would have Don send us some spray buff to use with the polisher.
Health & Safety:
Summers reported that the Health & Safety Committee held a meeting on Thursday, March 8th at 6:00pm. She noted that the committee reviewed the budget.
Summers reported that there were no building permits to approve.
City Attorney, Stan Tucker reported that he is working on Wiepricht and Jefferies’ title issues. He also noted that waiting on Public Aid to respond are the other two properties that we hold deeds on. Summers asked Stan to draw up paperwork to put the properties up for sell with stipulation that the property must be demolished in 60 days.
There being no further business to discuss, Johnson made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:25 pm. Bierbaum seconded the motion. Roll was called with Schlatter, Summers, Eddings, Bierbaum, Johnson and Boone voting aye. Motion carried with 6 aye votes and no nay votes.
