McDonough County Law & Legal Committee met June 4.

Here is the minutes provided by the Committee:

The Law & Legal Committee held its monthly meeting on Monday, June 4, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. The meeting was held at the McDonough County Courthouse in the Law Library. Committee members present included Chairman Travis Hiel, George Dixon, Alice Henry, Jerome Anderson, Lee Calvert, Bob Mahr, Rod McGrew, Clarke Kelso, and County Chairman Scott Schwerer. Other persons in attendance were Patrick Stout, Ric Smart, Sheriff Nick Petitgout, Dave Schaab, Tim Lobdell, and County Clerk Gretchen DeJaynes.

Chairman Hiel called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Review & Approve May 7, 2018 Minutes:

Member Dixon moved with a second by Member McGrew to approve the May 7, 2018 minutes as submitted. Motion carried on a voice vote.

Waste Management Update:

David Schwaab gave the report. They are still having recycling issues. China still won’t take recycling and now Vietnam won’t either.

Tri-County R & WM Report:

Tim Lobdell gave the report. Volume is staying the same but the weight may be going down due to electronics getting smaller. Lobdell believes that his budget request will be the same as last year. A new paint machine has been ordered.

Veteran’s Assistance and Van Report:

Veteran’s Superintendent Ric Smart gave the report. Nine Veterans were given assistance in May amounting to $1,950.15. The transportation van made 14 trips to Iowa City transporting 35 Veterans, a total of 3,608 miles. Drivers contributed 108.5 hours of their time. Smart said that they will be getting a new van tomorrow that they will have to pick up in Granger, Iowa.

Sheriff’s Report:

Sheriff Nick Petitgout presented the monthly report. Jail average was 28. The deputies handled 933 assorted incidents in May. The Public Aid savings on inmate medical March and April was $925.41.

The Sheriff’s Department ceased $36,000.00 from a drug house in May, the money will be shared with the Macomb Police Department.

Assessor’s Office Update:

No Update.

Claims Review and Approval:

Member McGrew moved with a second by Member Mahr to approve the claims as submitted. Motion carried on a voice vote.

Executive Session for Employment Issue:

Motion to go into executive session by Member Kelso with a second by Member Mahr at 7:24 p.m. Motion to exit executive session by Member Henry moved with a second by Member McGrew at 7:31 p.m. No action was taken.

Other:

The Department of Agriculture will be offering a clean sweep program to collect farm chemicals. Forms will need to be turned in by July 18, 2018.

With no further business to discuss, Member Henry moved with a second by Member Kelso to adjourn the meeting at 7:33 p.m.
