City of Dallas Center City Council met May 30.

Here is the minutes provided by the Council:

The Dallas City City Council held its regular meeting on May 30, 2018, at 5 p.m. Mayor Kevin Six called the meeting to order with the following commissioners present: Lila Gittings, Esther Newberry, Harold Northup Jr., and Greg Olson.

Others attending the meeting were Anne Thompson, Wayne Lebeck, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Whittmore, Chris Classen, Gary Smith, Kenneth Foster, Doug Erickson, Eric Icenogle, and Mariah Wallace.

A motion was made by Newberry, and 2nd by Olson to accept the minutes of the May 9, 2018, regular meeting and the May 14, 2018, special meeting. Gittings, Newberry, and Olson Aye. Northup Abstain.

Wayne Lebeck asked if it would be possible to get some gravel along the edge of West Fourth Street in front of his house and on the Sycamore Street easement south of West Fourth Street by the water booster station. The council would like to wait until the 2018 motor fuel contract work has been completed so that if there are other areas that need some gravel, they can all be taken care of at the same time. Mr. Lebeck also asked about correcting the grade of the Sycamore Street and alley easements. He informed the council that when it rains, the water runs to the east towards his property due to the grade of the alley easement.

Anne Thompson asked about the properties at 70 East Fifth Street and 57 East Fourth Street. The owner of the property at 57 East Fourth Street has informed the city that this property would be taken care of by June 5, 2018.

Bill Whittmore discussed putting up a fence on his property. The city attorney will check out the law for him on how far a fence must be from a city street.

Doug Erickson discussed a meeting that is going to be held on June 6, 2018, at Pittsfield, Illinois, regarding possible funds that might be available to help improve the city's boat dock landing.

Police Chief Gary Smith introduced Kenneth Foster to the council. Mr. Foster has been hired to be a full-time police officer for the city.

Discussed buying a used bullet proof vest from the La Harpe Police Department. This will be discussed more at the next meeting.

A motion was made by Newberry, and 2nd by Olson to donate $200 to the Parents For Youth Sports for the Dallas City youth baseball and softball program. Gittings, Newberry, Northup, and Olson Aye.

The city has received a request from Hancock County Sheriff Scott Bentzinger for a donation for the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics next month. A motion was made by Gittings, and 2nd by Northup to donate $50 to the Special Olympics Illinois for the Law Enforcement Torch Run. Gittings, Newberry, Northup, and Olson Aye.

Discussed renewing membership with the Hancock County Economic Development Corporation. The cost of the annual membership is $1332.45. A motion was made by Newberry, and 2nd by Olson to renew the city's annual membership with the Hancock County Economic Development Corporation for $1332.45. Gittings, Newberry, Northup, and Olson Aye.

A motion was made by Newberry, and 2nd by Gittings to adjourn the meeting. Gittings, Newberry, Northup, and Olson Aye.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:15 p.m.
