MCDONOUGH DISTRICT HOSPITAL: MDH Hosts Community Heart Health Program

Heart

McDonough District Hospital issued the following announcement on Jan. 28.

Every 40 seconds, someone in the United States has a heart attack. But what happens before and after a cardiac event? McDonough District Hospital’s Care for Your Heart program will answer that question on Wednesday, February 20. The public is invited to this free, informational event that begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Services Department (on third floor at MDH).

Participants will walk through the stages a cardiac patient might experience, beginning at the doors of the emergency room, on to the tests and procedures done on-site and in the Cardiopulmonary Department, then concluding with an overview of services provided in the Cardiac Rehabilitation Department.

Registered dietitians will also discuss heart healthy nutrition tips and how to create a healthier lifestyle in the interest of preventing a cardiac event or recovering from one.

Cardiopulmonary services at MDH are provided by highly trained and credentialed specialists in the field of cardiopulmonary and vascular diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. They treat patients of all ages and needs, tailoring the procedure and education to meet the needs of each patient.

The MDH Cardiopulmonary Department recently earned reaccreditation by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) in Vascular Testing and Echocardiography.

Certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR), MDH Cardiac Rehabilitation provides programs of exercise and education to help people with heart conditions live to their fullest potential, including those recovering from: open heart surgery, heart attack, stent placement, valve repair or replacement, and stable angina, and other additional conditions.

Heart-healthy hors d‘oeuvres and drinks will be provided. To RSVP for the program, contact MDH Outreach Services at (309) 836-1584.
