City of Hamilton City Council met August 19

City of Hamilton City Council met Aug. 19.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

The Hamilton City Council met in regular session at 7:00pm with Mayor Walter Sellens, Aldermen Bob Eddings, Dave Bierbaum, Bill Johnson, Beverly Boone, Steve Schlatter and Debbie Summers answering roll call. Stan Tucker attended by telephone.

Mayor Sellens led everyone in the “Pledge of Allegiance”.

Sellens asked for a motion to approve the minutes of the August 5, 2019 meeting. Bierbaum made a motion to approve the minutes. Johnson seconded the motion. Roll was called with Eddings, Bierbaum, Johnson, Boone, Schlatter and Summers voting aye. Motion carried with 6 aye votes and no nay votes.

Mayor Sellens noted that school is back in session. He reminded the community to watch for stopped school busses and remember it is illegal to pass them.

FINANCE & APPROPRIATIONS

Eddings reported the Finance Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, August 27th at 6:00pm.

Eddings reported that the City had received the following deposit:

•August 13$ 14,227.27State Sales Tax

Eddings made a motion to approve the Treasurer’s Report. Summers seconded the motion. Roll was called with Bierbaum, Johnson, Boone, Schlatter, Summers and Eddings voting aye. Motion carried with 6 aye votes and no nay votes.

Mayor Sellens thanked Bob and Amy Eddings for representing the city at the Local Official’s Day at the Illinois State Fair. Eddings reported that he had spent some time talking with Belynda Allen about some items to bring to the Economic and Tourism committee.

HEALTH & SAFETY

Bierbaum reported that the Health and Safety Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, August 27th at 5:00pm.

BUILDING & GROUNDS, PERMITS & ZONING

Johnson made a motion to approve the following building permits: 42’L x 18’W Concrete Drive to John & Darlene Hempen at 811 North 7th Street, 16’L x 4’W x 9’H Room Addition to Chris Corvaia at 1540 Keokuk Street, and 24’L x 20’W x 9’ to Scott Miller at 1481 Broadway. Boone seconded the motion. Roll was called with Johnson, Boone, Schlatter, Summers, Eddings and Bierbaum voting aye. Motion carried with 6 aye votes and no nay votes.

Building Inspector, Tim Hempen reported that the building permit for a fence that was not approved at a previous meeting on 420 North 9th has been relocated to a proper location. Johnson made a motion to approve the building permit for 270’ Chain Link Fence for Mary Ann Martens at 420 North 9th Street. Bierbaum seconded the motion. Roll was called with Boone, Schlatter, Summers, Eddings, Bierbaum and Johnson voting aye. Motion carried with 6 aye votes and no nay votes.

Doris Ritter, Supervisor of Montebello Township attended the meeting to request the City Council waive the building permit fee for their 30 x 40 building at Oakwood Cemetery. She noted that $16,000-$20,000 that the Township levy’s every year is paid to the City. The committee will discuss further and get back to her.

PUBLIC WORKS

Schlatter reported that the Public Works Committee will hold a meeting on Monday, August 26th at 5:15pm.

ECONOMIC & TOURISM

Summers had nothing new to report at this time.

Mayor Sellens reported that he spoke with Kirk Brandenberger regarding the Geode Fest next month. He noted that he has ordered the dumpster from Kohlmorgan and talked with Aron regarding water at the location. He will also be making a phone call to locate the two generators we used last year.

Mayor Sellens welcomed Amy McMillian Bell to the meeting. She inquired into what the spray painted lines in her yard and across her concrete driveway were for. She asked for someone to contact her to explain what is planned and how they were going to fix it. Aron Metternich reported that a Julie must have been called in but he will stop by her house after the meeting and look at it.

Mayor Sellens reported that Tucker has contacted Mike Kraft regarding his request to raise the flood elevation. He has not heard back from him.

There being no further business to discuss, Schlatter made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:23pm. Johnson seconded the motion. Roll was called with Schlatter, Summers, Eddings, Bierbaum, Johnson and Boone voting aye. Motion carried with 6 aye votes and no nay votes.
