Macomb mayor reminds citizens to 'stay at home'

Macomb city hall

Macomb Mayor Mike Inman told city council at its meeting earlier this month that he is concerned about the amount of traffic going and coming through the city.

Inman says the traffic indicates that people are defying the executive order to stay at home that Gov. J.B. Pritzker imposed on the state.

Inman told citizens to limit the time they spend outside their homes. He added that some people are walking around with the coronavirus and aren't aware of it.

“Please limit your time outside the home,” the mayor said, as reported by the McDonough County Voice. “The next two weeks will be critical.”

Inman said statistics indicate that up to 25% of those in the community are walking around with the virus and don’t know it.

During the city council meeting, City Clerk Melanie Falk read a message sent to her by a citizen who is presently residing in Jefferson House. The citizen stated that non-residents are walking through the building and reported the number of people walking through the halls has increased since the staff is now working from home.
